JUST IN CASE . . .
Just in case...
A collection of work inspired by home, culture, food, survival, place and politics
staged at Dean Clough Galleries, November 26th 2016 - January 5th 2017
One for the heart…
Fabriano paper, fire, drawing board,
oil on paper
This body of work has been made over several years often as a very personal response to a particular event or encounter. I enjoy playing with my audience, crossing lines and breaking rules in order to challenge and amuse in the same breath, sometimes producing work that is both light-hearted and deeply disturbing, often with an underlying social or political commentary.
I have a strong desire to do absolutely everything possible in the short time allotted to me… soaking everything up and learning all the time, taking every opportunity to make a difference – to challenge and change. Change… that most difficult of things!
But there are some things that absolutely must change and I constantly live in the hope that one day they will. My very recent trip to Palestine is at the forefront of my current influences and I feel bound to share my extraordinary experiences of horror and hope, both verbally and visually, just in case…. I can make a difference.
